NPU and VUB Sign Collaboration Agreement under the witness of Presidents of two countries

On the afternoon of March 31 of Brussels time, under the witness of President Xi Jinping of China and Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo of Belgium, NPU President Wang Jingsong and VUB Principal Paul De Knop signed the collaboration agreement for the Partnership of Supreme Importance between Northwestern Polytechnical University and Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

The exchange and collaboration in education between China and Belgium is an important part of “Sino-Euro2020 Strategic Planning”. The agreement signing ceremony between NPU and VUB received much attention from both governments. Besides, the two universities also signed another four agreements as follows: Agreement on Establishing Sino-Belgium Joint National Laboratory, Agreement on 3+2 Students’ Co-training Program, Agreement on the Co-Training Program of Dual Master’s Degree, Cooperative Agreement on Business Incubator, indicating thatthe two schools would carry out comprehensive collaborations in the fields of scientific research, talents’ cultivating, and science and technology industry. Hence, VUB would be NPU’s Privileged Partner in its global strategic cooperation.

It was said that the two sides would jointly apply for the establishment of an International Joint Laboratory of Visual and Audio Signa Processing, which would be of national level.

Setup in 1834, VUB now is among the world’s top 200 universities. It is also NPU’s most important partner in Europe. In as early as 1993, the two universities began cooperation in computer science. Over the past two decades, the cooperation has developed from the original personnel exchange into amulti-leveled and three-dimensioned framework of talents’ cultivating, scientific research, and industry-university- research cooperation, which demonstrates the deepening of the two sides’ contacts and cooperations. In the meanwhile, the cooperations between the two universities have also promoted the collaboration in the transformation of scientific and technological achievements between Brussels, Belgium and Xi’an.
